Mark is a Of Counsel in Chevalier Law LLC, and he has experience in a wide variety of practice areas, including mergers & acquisitions, corporate commercial matters and civil and criminal litigation. Mark graduated from the University of Buckingham (UK) in 1996 and is admitted to the Singapore Bar.

Work Highlights
  • Successfully defended an accused in a maid abuse case and achieved an acquittal
  • Successfully defended an accused in an attempted murder charge and successfully reduced the charge to a lower offence
  • Acted for clients in a variety of criminal matters including drink driving, possession of controlled substance, outrage of modesty, and causing grievous hurt
  • Acted for claimants in insurance claims and achieved a high percentage of success at trials
  • Was engaged by an e-commerce company on a retainer basis providing legal solutions for e-payment gateway and software development
  • Acted for clients in divorce proceedings
  • Acted for clients in a variety of civil cases including, purchase of crew boats, landlord and tenant matters, shareholders’ agreements, and sales and distribution agreements.
After several years in private practice including being an equity partner at a law firm, Mark joined the Economic Development Board Singapore (“EDB”) as its sole legal counsel and subsequently as the regional counsel for several multinational corporations (“MNC”) in the private sector where he was responsible for several business units and functions. While working at EDB, Mark was responsible for negotiating S$5 billion project with an European solar company to set up a plant to produce solar panels in Singapore. In addition, Mark primarily provided legal support for (i) EDB’s 7 divisions that covered all sectors of Singapore’s economy, (ii) EDB’s 19 worldwide offices in North America, Europe and Asia; (iii) Seeds Capital Pte Ltd, (iv) Business Angels Scheme, (v) and functions such as human resource, finance and audit.

Mark also has prior experience as the Head of Legal for a group of listed companies in Singapore, namely, Hanwell Holdings Ltd, Intraco Limited and Tat Seng Packaging Group Ltd.

Mark’s role as the regional counsel for several MNC, included most notably:
(a) Bombardier (Singapore) Pte Ltd (“Bombardier”), where he represented Bombardier to negotiate the sale of MRT trains for the Downtown Line Project to the Land Transport Authority.
(b) BASF South East Asia Pte Ltd, where he was responsible for providing legal support to 3 business units operating in 15 countries in Asia-Pacific with a combined annual turnover of Euro 3 billion.
(c) Hempel (Singapore) Pte Ltd, where he was responsible for providing legal support to all 3 lines of business across 7 countries in South East Asia.
